“Ukraine will not notice the decisions taken by the NATO summit in Romania. Whether MAP is offered to Ukraine or not, it will not accelerate Ukraine’s pace toward NATO. We are amid serious social and economic crisis in Ukraine. Meanwhile, NATO is used as a red herring to distract attention from the main issues,” Mykhailo Syrota of Lytvyn bloc and leader of the Labor party of Ukraine, said in his March 25 press conference in Lviv held at the ZIK information agency. -
As regards Kosovo recognition, Syrota had this to say: “It is not in the interests of Ukraine to recognize Kosovo independence, as Kyiv must realize that the recognition may pave the way for similar developments in Crimea, Siverskodonetsk, and Zakarpattia.”
Still the international community is poised to recognize Kosovo independence, he added. “Last week I met with a Spanish diplomat who told me Spain is going to recognize the independence of Kosovo. Spain is under immense pressure, the diplomat admitted to me. As the large-scale recognition comes, serious conflicts will surface in 16 European countries which may lead to parts of them breaking away. Ukraine belongs here, too,” Syrota stressed.
