As of May 1, the Bukovyna Airlines ran up a $100,000 debt in wage arrears to its employees, or 62% of Chernivtsi oblast total wage arrears. As the company owner is a foreign national, the city authorities appealed to Ukraine ministries of foreign affairs and transport to use measures against the owner envisaged by international legislation, Chernivtsi city council department for labor and social protection head Alina Kruhletska told ZIK May 6.Since the start of 2008, wage arrears have grown by $30,000. Ministerial commission and prosecutors will examine in May the operations of Bukovyna Airlines to force the owner to meet his obligations to staff and tax administration.

Due to struggling companies and deadbeats, total wage arrears in the Chernivtsi oblast stood at about $190,000.
