SBU officer in Volyn accuses his boss of whitewashing corrupt personnel implicated in contraband

July 3, several Internet publications reported a meeting of SBU board which examined compromising video materials allegedly showing Yury Kushkaruk, SBU Liuboml station head, distributing among his personnel kickbacks from illegal contraband.July 9, Yury Kushneruk, head of SBU station in Liuboml, Volyn oblast, blew the whistle on SBU head Gen. Nalyvajchenko accusing him of covering up for corrupt SBU officials involved in the contraband of goods and launching an illegal investigation against him with the purpose of compromising his activities. He accused the service of opening an illegal investigation against himself, wire-tapping his office and listening in to his phone conversations. He said his past one-year service in Liuboml gave only positive results, helping to expose numerous criminal syndicates operating at the border and linked to Ukraine high-ranking officials.
July 10, SBU issued a statement, saying the investigation was part of a larger project to expose corrupt SBU personnel in the border regions. The statement invites those persons in possession of any evidence about corrupt dealings of SBU officers to submit it to SBU.
