Yulia Tymoshenko is the darling of West Ukraine voters

With the approval rating of all other political parties dwindling in West Ukraine, BYUT remains strong. Although the bulk of voters here admit the existence of an acute political crisis, they put the blame on the 2 Viktors, Yushchenko and Yanukovych, with Tymoshenko riding high. Such are the results of a public opinion survey in 5 major oblast capitals of West Ukraine, Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne and Lutsk, said Sotsinform center director Olexy Antypovych July 22.According to the survey, if the presidential election was held tomorrow, Yulia Tymoshenko would be a shoo-in, with Ternopil residents giving her 42%, Lviv 38.8%, Ivano-Frankivsk 36.5%, Lutsk 34.5% and Rivne 24.7% of the vote. Pres Yushchenko comes second or third, depending on the city. His rating is the highest in Lutsk, 12.2%, Lviv 10.5%, Rivne 10%.
Meanwhile, head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine Popov notes that Tymoshenko’s high level of support is surprising: “On the one hand, the party in power has many supporters, but, on the other hand, the life in Ukraine has become worse.” Political expert Anatoly Romaniuk argues that for the past 17-18 years voters have demonstrated unwavering support for BYUT. That is why Ukrainians do not view the existing problems as the shortfalls of Yulia Tymoshenko cabinet.
The rightist Svoboda party rating is steadily climbing in West Ukraine, with its leader Oleh Tyahnybok in third position for the presidential seat. As for parliamentary elections, Lviv resident’s choice is also Svoboda. Its rating is growing at the expense of NUNS, Olexy Antypovych notes.
If elections to VR were held tomorrow, BYUT would get in Ternopil 45.8%, Lviv 40.1%, Ivano-Frankivsk 39.7% , in Lutsk 39% and in Rivne 32.2%.
Svoboda would get 10.8% in Lviv, 9% in Ternopil, 7.7% in Ivano-Frankivsk, 4.8% in Lutsk and 5.2% in Rivne.
NUNS would get 11.3% in Rivne, 8.9% in Lviv, 8.8% in Lutsk, 5.8% in Ternopil, and 5.8% in Ivano-Frankivsk.
