Flood kills 30 in Western Ukraine

In the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast alone the number of casualties from the storm and flood has reached 19 persons, with 5 of them children. Electricity supplies have been cut to 50 villages, 49 gas-filling stations have been incapacitated and telephone communications with 106 towns and villages have been disrupted, oblast administration press service reports.In total, 417 towns and villages, 29,905 homes and 20,600 hectares of arable land were flooded or destroyed in the oblast in the course of the hurricane on July 23-26.
10,645 km of dams, 664 km of roads, 416 bridges and other infrastructure were damaged by the flood. Rescue workers saved 1,435 and evacuated to safe places 8,353 oblast residents.
In the Chernivtsi oblast, 9 Ukrainians died in the flood and 1 disappeared. Losses to the economy are estimated at $300 million, deputy governor Vitaly Usyk told ZIK July 29.
In the Lviv oblast, 2 persons were killed by the disaster, both in rural areas.
