According to a July 28 police report, an unidentified man threatened The Globus Hotel staff and residents with a gun in Smykivtsi, Ternopil rayon. The police rushed to the site and sealed off the hotel. They seized a 7.62-mm automatic rifle and a gas pistol from the offender despite the fact that he had all the required permits.
The drunken man turned out to be a Ternopil city council deputy (BYUT). After interviewing the eye-witnesses, the police detained the lawmaker for questioning.
The police also submitted a report to the rayon prosecutor.
“We cannot comment now on the incident involving a BYUT lawmaker. I can confirm that the rumors about his expulsion from the party and being stripped off his mandate [which bars him from any prosecution – Ed.] are false,” Ternopil oblast BYUT branch press secretary Olena Krynytska told ZIK July 29.
”Only after we receive the results of police investigation, the party committee will decide whether to expel the lawmaker from the party and the council,” Olena Krynytska stressed.
