Potential perpetrators of Mykhailo Syrota death could have been present at his funeral, Yevhen Zolotaryov claims

“I felt bitter observing the cynicism of Ukrainian politicians at the funeral of Mykhailo Syrota, the author of the Ukrainian constitution and prominent VR lawmaker,” the leader of Pora Yevhen Zolotaryov said. Coming to his funeral, those who consider themselves part of the country’s political elite engaged in reckless driving scores of meters away from Syrota’s coffin,” Pora Aug. 27 press service release quotes Zolotaryov as saying.“Specially blatant driving was demonstrated by cars in which Leonid
Kuchma, Viktor Yanukovych and Leonid Chernovetsky arrived at the site
of the funeral – all of them in the oncoming lane.
Ukraine’s political heavyweights whooshed away from the funeral at high speed - at risk for pedestrians and other vehicles which had to maneuver frantically to avoid collisions with high-ranking “mourners,” Zolotaryov notes. It didn’t occur to them that such kind of conduct was humiliating to the memory of the lawmaker. “It would be the same as coming to Yevhen Kushnaryov’s funeral with a gun,” the Pora leader observed [Kushnaryov died during a hunting accident]. He also said the police, as usual, looked the other way in the face of flagrant violations of traffic regulations.
Ukraine’s abominable road accident death rate won’t be brought down, as was tellingly demonstrated by the politicians who can resolve this acute problem, he stresses. “Some of the big shots have already been guilty of causing road accidents involving the loss of life. Can the road death rate be reduced by those who opt to violate traffic regulations right, left and center?” Zolotaryov asks.
