Regions’ advice to Tymoshenko: ”Read our party’s program well before entering coalition talks”

September17200809:43

“What is now going on in VR is a logical end of the Orange political parties. I am shocked by the cynicism of Orange politicians who pushed for snap elections in 2007, promising various benefits to Ukrainians. You remember these “carrots” well: one lady promised to liquidate army conscription and compensate for the savings lost in the 90s. Another [Yushchenko] promised to take 10 steps toward the people [Yushchenko’s campaign program]. Now the big question is: who is to be held accountable for what is going on in Ukraine? Like in 2005, the Orangists have proven that they are good for nothing. They triggered off inflation, raised prices, and once again started to talk about snap elections and a new coalition,” one of Party of Regions’ hawks, Vasyl Kyselyov, says, commenting on the developments in VR Sept. 16. [Kyselyov’s comments are posted on PR’s official website.]

“What can I say? When I look at BYUT and NUNS, these two parties seem so similar to me. They are just birds of a feather. They built up tensions in Ukraine and marred relations with Russia, and they must be held accountable for doing this,” V. Kyselyov said.

The present tensions must subside before the new coalition talks can start, he believes.

“Our future partners must be advised to know that we have our own party program which we pledged to implement. If Yulia Tymoshenko wants to join in a coalition with the Regions, I strongly recommend her (and, I underline, it is my personal stand) to write a letter to the NATO general secretary and revoke her signature under the notorious “letter by the troika” requesting MAP for Ukraine,” the lawmaker warned.

He also recommends Tymoshenko to read up on Regions’ program. “If the Regions program suits her well, we can go to the table of negotiations and find common ground and shape up a common agenda which will benefit the Ukrainians. Otherwise, I believe, our party has to think well with whom to form a new coalition,” V. Kyselyov concluded.
