BYUT will not vote for a statement condemning Russia’s aggression in Georgia, lawmaker Andry Shkil said, speaking on the sidelines in VR Oct. 3.“Politically charged statements on Georgia won’t be supported by VR,” A. Shkil said.
He said VR will vote for a statement which the majority of lawmakers will support.
BYUT believes, he continued, that the issue of Georgia is used to score political points.
“Our president is permanently flouting the European community, but BYUT will not do it and we support the stand taken by the CE on the Russia-Georgia conflict,” A. Shkil added.
Earlier, NUNS has repeatedly declared that a strongly-worded condemnation of Russia’s alleged aggression in the Caucasus by VR is a condition for creating a coalition with BYUT and the Lytvyn bloc.
It should be recalled that Oct. 1 Premier Yulia Tymoshenko said BYUT would accept all the ultimatums of NUNS.
In confirmation, BYUT voted jointly with NUNS to cancel the laws stripping the incumbent of some of his powers and passed by BYUT and the Party of Regions on Sept. 2. Thus, BYUT and NUNS cancelled the laws on the cabinet, Constitutional Court, Secret Service, ad hoc VR commissions, and on civil servants.
