As oil prices are falling, Russia cannot raise it gas prices. “I’m not forecasting, I mean it. Russia won’t raise its gas price for Europe in the next 2 years,” the lawmaker said.

Russia sells its gas to Belarus at $130 and to Bulgaria and the Baltic states at $280. Poland, Slovakia and the Czech republic have to pay more - $380 – due to their unfriendly foreign policy towards Russia.

“You won’t find any warnings of higher prices by the Russians over the past month. They cannot raise the price as oil prices are down. This trend will keep up for the next 6 months. If we are the same partners for Russians as the Baltic states and Bulgaria, there won’t be price hikes for Ukraine in 2009,” Hudyma said.

If Tymoshenko continues as premier, the price for 2009 will be between $230 and $250, the lawmaker believes. “Yulia Tymoshenko is a guarantor of long-term cooperation between Ukraine and Russia in the gas sector. Unfortunately, not all depends on Tymoshenko – there is Pres Yushchenko,” O. Hudyma argues.

Gas prices will go up for Ukraine if developments happen that will change Russia’s stance towards Ukraine and Kremlyn will view us as an unreliable partner. Then Ukraine will face much higher gas prices, he summed up.

- Ummm thats just stupid.. Poland doesn't pay higher gas prices cause of its unfriendly stance towards Russia. It pay markets prices such as friendly Russian nations such as even Germany. Only reason Ukraine pays lower prices cause its to poor to pay market prices. If it was forced to pay them, then they would not be able to pay the bill resulting in Russia cutting of Ukranian gas. This would cause an outcry in Europe from western European nations and alienate them..fearing this , Russia decided to raise the prices incrementaly.. Give it 10 years if that and Ukraine will be paying the same price regardless if your Prime Minister blows Putin's balls or not. This is not to mention that the baltics also have an unfriendly stance towards Russia and yet they pay way lower prices. The prices had to do with Politics clearly since the Russian government uses oil and gas as a political tool...
