Yatseniuk skeptical about official recognition of UPA fighters

Verkhovna Rada’s former Speaker and presidential candidate Arseny Yatseniuk says that neither the current nor the next legislature will recognize Ukrainian Insurgent Army fighters as WWII veterans. Yatseniuk declared this, addressing supporters of his Front of Changes public organization in the Volyn oblast Apr. 23, our correspondent reports.

A. Yatseniuk admitted that, if he wins the presidency he won’t risk tabling an appropriate bill.

“Time is needed for 26 million of Eastern Ukraine inhabitants to learn the truth about the UPA guerillas,” he stressed.

“It [the recognition] is a knotty issue, and I cannot pledge to launch any appropriate legislative initiatives,” he summed up.

      Dear President Yushchenko,
Here is an amendment for the Constitution of Ukraine: It is a Ukrainian citizen’s right to keep and bear arms; to be able to lawfully defend oneself and his or her family in Ukraine.
