Vasyl Petyovka, a lawmaker and member of Yedyny Tsentr, has appealed to the security service of Ukraine, SBU, to screen the operations in Ukraine of the US-based Blackstone Group International, demanding that the agency find out who is paying for the services rendered by the company, Yedyny Tsentr press service release says.Petyovka points out that the US company has close links to the noted financier, George Soros, who has private interests in Ukraine and who is probably paying for its services. Petyovka says that access to sensitive information and cabinet decisions may inflict a serious economic damage on Ukraine.
According to Petyovka, he received a negative answer to his appeal to the Ukrainian authorities to confirm a legal contract between the cabinet and the US company. No such contract was signed and no such company acts as a financial adviser to the cabinet, was the answer.
Meanwhile, Petyovka stresses that an article by Peter Lattman titled Depression Pinch Buffets Blackstone published by The Wall Street Journal on Feb. 28, 2009 clearly indicates that the Blackstone Group was rendering consultative services to the government of Ukraine.
